I met Flora at a vet in Agua Prieta, Mexico. It turns out that, in addition to caring for nearly 200 animals, she has to go all over town every day seeking enough food donations to feed them. I visited her facility, and it’s truly amazing. Like many shelters, she doesn’t have enough funds to create the environment she envisions. What impressed me most was that most of the dogs were housed together in one large turnout. If any of them fight, they are removed to a small kennel alone, so the turnout is full—really full—of dogs living in harmony. It was beautiful to see what she has created. I took one of her dogs to home and she was the sweetest little girl.
